A flood map is the first stop before building

The Sabine River starts around Hunt County. Its forks and creeks make flood risk vary from one lot to the next. Hunt County uses the current FEMA flood map and later map changes, not one old map date.

Search the street address in FEMA's Map Service Center. Then compare it with the Texas Flood Information Viewer. If any part of an unincorporated lot is in a floodplain, call Hunt County Development before you plan a house, driveway, fill, or other work. The county requires a permit for covered work. A map is a starting point, not a promise that higher ground cannot flood.
