Many Hunt County car renewals are simpler now

Since January 1, 2025, TxDMV says most Texas cars and light trucks no longer need a safety inspection before registration. Hunt County is not on the 17-county emissions list. Commercial vehicles still need a commercial inspection.

Renew online through TxDMV or Texas by Texas. To renew in person, bring your notice and proof of liability insurance to the county tax office or an approved substation.
