Lake Tawakoni is open-water country for striped bass

Lake Tawakoni covers parts of three counties about 15 miles southeast of Greenville. TPWD lists striped and hybrid striped bass, white bass, catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass. Humps in the open lake draw schools of fish. Crappie gather near bridge posts, standing timber, and brush.

Special catfish limits apply, and lake levels can change the fishing. Check the current Outdoor Annual for license rules and exceptions. TPWD now allows fishing without a license from the Lake Tawakoni State Park shore. That exception does not make the whole lake license-free.
