Tawakoni WMA hunting has unit-by-unit rules
Tawakoni WMA gives Hunt County a public hunting option along the lake, but it is not one continuous tract with one simple gate. TPWD lists separate units and requires hunters to carry the proper hunting license, tags or stamps, and public hunting permit. Hunting is restricted to archery gear and shotguns.
The shotgun rule is specific: non-toxic shot or lead no larger than No. 4. The waterfowl-only area covers the lake surface and land within 100 feet of the water's edge. It also has setbacks from homes and the state park. TPWD bars trapping. On this WMA, the current map booklet and area page are part of the gear. They show how permit, season, species, and unit rules fit together.
