Mercer Arboretum Adds Gardens and Creekside Trails in Humble
Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens gives north Harris County a park built around plants rather than ball fields. It began with Thelma and Charles Mercer and became a Harris County park in 1974; today it spans 393 acres in Humble.
The park has two distinct halves. The east side holds 60 acres of cultivated, themed gardens. The west side is the wilder one — scenic trails, the Jake Roberts Maple Collection, and natural areas like the Bald Cypress Swamp. You can wander a tidy garden bed and a swamp boardwalk in the same afternoon.
For families and gardeners around Humble, Spring, and the airport side of the county, it is a calmer, greener option than the usual neighborhood park. Check Harris County Precinct 3 for hours, programs, and reservation rules before you go.
