Museum District Park
Hermann Park Is a Civic Green Space Beside Major Houston Institutions
Hermann Park is where Houston piles its culture and its green space into the same spot. Inside or right against it you will find McGovern Lake and shaded trails, the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theatre, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, a golf course, and the Japanese Garden — the kind of place where a morning walk and a museum afternoon happen on one parking trip.
It is also part of the city's parks story from the very start. When Houston created its parks department in 1916, it began with just two parks: Sam Houston Park and Hermann Park. That puts Hermann Park among the oldest public green spaces in the city.
If you live near the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center, or Rice University, this park is easy walking-distance daily life rather than a special trip. Check the city's pages for garden access, parking, and event schedules before you head over.
