Levelland, Texas

Levelland is a city in Hockley County on the flat South Plains of West Texas, about 30 miles west of Lubbock, its name reflecting the notably level terrain of the surrounding cotton country. The area is a major producer of cotton and lies within the Permian Basin oil region, and Levelland grew substantially after oil was discovered nearby in the mid-20th century. The city is home to South Plains College.

Property here runs through the Hockley Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Hockley County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
