Lobo Lake Takes Its Name from Levelland's School Mascot

Lobo Lake Park sits at Avenue H and 13th Street beside Old Levelland Lobo Stadium. The 11.5-acre park takes its name from the school mascot, which makes the lake feel tied to local identity rather than dropped into town under a generic park name.

The lake is man-made, with two bridges and a fountain breaking up the water. The city's inventory adds a wonderfully odd detail: a small mountain surrounded by a moat. That feature sits alongside a playground and picnic space, giving the grounds a little more character than the usual loop around a pond.

A walking track circles the park, and a large pavilion doubles as an amphitheater. Fishing is allowed under Texas rules, but swimming is not, so the water is for casting a line or enjoying from the bank rather than taking a dip.

The old stadium, mascot name, bridges, fountain, and moat all fit into a compact park. It is a place where Levelland's school-town story and its everyday outdoor space are unusually hard to separate.
