VIN Inspection
Some Tarrant Title Cases Need a VTR-68-A VIN Inspection
Most vehicle title work is routine, but every so often a case needs a law-enforcement VIN inspection before it can go through — that's the VTR-68-A. It confirms the vehicle identification number for titling, or sorts out whether the vehicle needs an assigned or reassigned VIN, the kind of thing that comes up with home-built trailers, kit cars, or a title that doesn't quite match the metal.
It helps to know what it isn't. The VTR-68-A is not a safety inspection, and the Sheriff's Office doesn't run a weight scale, so don't show up expecting either. The county has also flagged heavier-than-usual demand lately, driven by law changes and a thin bench of qualified inspectors, which means appointments can back up.
So if a title clerk or a TxDMV instruction sends you toward Form VTR-68-A, don't just roll into a branch and hope. Follow the Sheriff's process for requesting one and wait for them to tell you where and when.
