No emissions test required to register your car in Gregg County
Texas ended yearly safety checks for noncommercial vehicles on January 1, 2025. Gregg County is not in the state emissions program. Commercial vehicles still need a commercial check. The 2025 change did not end the other steps for registration.
You may renew online, by mail, or in person. New Texas residents and people doing most title or registration work should use a county tax office. Gregg County keeps its counter locations and hours current online.
The TxDMV regional center in Longview handles a short list of state services. Those include some replacement titles and title-error work. It is not the normal county registration counter.
