Deer hunting rules for Gregg County

For 2026-27, the Gregg County limit is four deer for all seasons combined: no more than two bucks and two antlerless deer. Only one legal buck may have an inside spread of 13 inches or more. Another legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler.

Archery runs October 3 through November 6, and the general season runs November 7 through January 3. Early youth season is October 30 through November 1. Late youth and muzzleloader seasons run January 4 through 17. During the general season, hunters using a license tag may take antlerless deer only November 7 through 29.

Every hunter needs the right Texas hunting license and the landowner's consent. A hunter age 17 or older in archery-only season also needs the archery endorsement; younger hunters are exempt from that endorsement. Recheck the Gregg County page before hunting because these rules change by season.
