A routine Fort Bend registration renewal may not require a drive to Richmond. The tax office lists neighborhood renewal spots, mostly Kroger and H-E-B stores from Katy down to Rosenberg. Online renewal is another option.

Those shortcuts work only for clean renewals. A title transfer, address change, long-expired sticker, state hold, disabled placard, missing inspection, or insurance problem still goes through the tax office or TxDMV.

Fort Bend is also an emissions county, so most gas vehicles need a passing emissions test on file. Check the record first if there is any doubt, so a grocery-store stop does not turn into a tax-office trip.
