Fort Bend Lists Neighborhood Spots for Registration Renewal

You don't have to drive to Richmond to renew a vehicle registration in Fort Bend County. The county tax office maintains a list of neighborhood renewal spots, mostly Kroger and H-E-B grocery stores scattered from Katy down to Rosenberg, where you can knock out a routine sticker renewal while you're already running errands. You can also renew online.

That shortcut only works for a clean, routine renewal, though. The grocery-store kiosks and online renewal can't fix the messy stuff: an address change, a title transfer, an expired-too-long registration, a state hold, a disabled placard, or a missing inspection or insurance record. Those still go through the county tax office or the statewide TxDMV system.

Fort Bend is also an emissions county, so most gas vehicles need a passing emissions test on file before the registration will renew. If you're not sure your record is clean, check it first so you don't get turned away at the kiosk and have to make the trip to the tax office anyway.
