Vehicle registration in Fort Bend County uses Two Steps, One Sticker

Texas ended the safety inspection rule for most personal cars and trucks on January 1, 2025. Fort Bend County still sits in the Houston-Galveston emissions area.

Many gas vehicles that are 2 to 24 model years old still need an emissions test before registration. Use a certified station. Once the test is on file, renew online, by mail, or through the Fort Bend County Tax Assessor-Collector.

Electric vehicles, some diesel vehicles, and vehicles more than 24 model years old can be exempt. TxDMV and the Texas inspection site keep the current list and station search.
