Vehicle Registration Practical

Most Fannin Drivers No Longer Need a Safety Inspection

The old inspection-before-registration routine changed on January 1, 2025. Texas ended yearly safety checks for personal vehicles. Fannin is also not on the state's list of emissions counties.

Most Fannin drivers can now renew through TxDMV or the county tax office without a trip to an inspection station. The usual replacement fee is $7.50. A new current- or prior-model-year vehicle that has never been registered pays $16.75 for its first two years instead.

Commercial vehicles still need a safety check. A vehicle based in an emissions county may need an emissions test too. Check DPS and TxDMV when the vehicle or registration does not fit the usual Fannin case.
