Parts of Harris County Can Get Windstorm Insurance Through TWIA

TWIA may cover wind and hail when a regular insurer will not. In Harris County, the home must be east of Highway 146. The owner also needs a denial from an approved insurer that sells or renews wind coverage in that area.

The building will usually need a WPI-8, WPI-8-E, or WPI-8-C wind certificate. Some work in coastal flood zones also calls for proof of flood insurance. Search the certificate with TDI. Then ask an agent to check the address, building work, and all TWIA rules.
