The Brazos, Little, and San Gabriel Drain Milam County
The Brazos River forms Milam County's northeast edge. The Little River enters near the northwest corner. It winds across the county and joins the Brazos in the southeast. The San Gabriel crosses west-central Milam County and joins the Little River. Those meetings happen at different places. There is no single spot where all three meet.
A river on a county map does not show the flood zone for one house. Search the street address in FEMA's Flood Map Service Center. Use the current official map for that address. FEMA updates its maps, so an old copy may be out of date.
If a home is in a Special Flood Hazard Area, federal rules may require flood insurance. A regulated lender generally cannot make or renew the mortgage unless the building has that coverage. The rule does not cover every home near a river. Flood insurance costs extra because standard home policies often do not cover flood damage. Ask the lender and insurer which rules apply to the address.
