Rockdale, Texas

Rockdale is a city in Milam County, in the Central Texas region roughly 40 miles east of Georgetown and a similar distance west of College Station. The surrounding land is gently rolling farm and ranch country underlain by lignite coal, and the town grew as a rail and mining center. For much of the twentieth century it was known for a large aluminum smelter that drew on nearby lignite deposits for power; the industry has since receded, and the area has more recently attracted interest for large-scale data and mining operations.

Property here runs through the Milam Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Milam County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
