TAMU-CC's Island University Name Is Literal

The Island University name is literal. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi sits on Ward Island, with Oso Bay on the south side and Corpus Christi Bay on the north side.

That geography gives the campus a very Nueces County feel. Students move through a public university wrapped by water, birds, wind, and bay research.

Its older story is small enough to picture. In 1947, Ward Island became home to the University of Corpus Christi with 312 students. The later A&M System chapter grew out of that island beginning.

The island setting still does a lot of the explaining. TAMU-CC is education, water, and coastal identity sharing the same ground.
