Lake Corpus Christi Gives Corpus Christi a Freshwater Fishing Option

The lake covers 18,256 acres in the Nueces River watershed, in San Patricio, Live Oak, and Jim Wells counties. That puts it just outside Nueces County, but close enough to work like Corpus Christi's inland fishing lake.

The main cast is largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, blue, channel and flathead catfish, bluegill, and redear sunfish. Largemouth over five pounds are common enough to mention, and the catfish and white bass fishing are two of the lake's stronger draws.

For an easy day, the state park side is the simple anchor: two lighted fishing piers, two boat ramps, and two fish-cleaning shelters. The lake can fluctuate by 5 to 10 feet, so boaters should make the ramp question part of the plan before a trailer leaves the driveway.
