SH 68 Is Planned to Help Move Traffic in Eastern Hidalgo County

State Highway 68 is a planned four-lane divided highway in eastern Hidalgo County. As of mid-2026, the project has completed environmental review but construction has not yet begun. It runs from US 83/I-2 to US 281/I-69C. TxDOT says the road is needed to help the area handle traffic and emergencies—including hurricane evacuations.
