Know Your Hurricane Evacuation Route Before a Storm

A storm does not have to hit Hidalgo County directly to fill the Valley highways. The county sits inland from the coast, but a major Gulf storm can still trigger evacuation traffic here.

TxDOT marks hurricane evacuation routes across south Texas. Some routes pass through Hidalgo County and lead toward San Antonio and other inland places. In a large evacuation, the state can use contraflow. That turns inbound lanes outward to move more traffic north.
