A new rural 911 address starts where the driveway meets the road

If you are building in unincorporated Houston County, get a 911 address for the new structure. Start on the county's 911 page and open the linked DETCOG Address Request Form. If the site is inside a city, contact city hall instead.

The form asks for a map pin where the driveway meets the road. Add the road name and either a nearby address or the appraisal-district property ID. Send a separate request for each structure that needs its own number. As checked July 29, 2026, the usual reply window was within three business days, but a request does not promise an assignment.

The form handles new addresses, not corrections. To confirm or fix an existing address, call the Houston County coordinator at 936-544-7427. The county 911 office is at 600 Bradshaw in Crockett.

A new number may not appear at once in a private GPS, delivery, or utility system. DETCOG sends map files to commercial GPS vendors but cannot force an update. Some carriers and utilities check USPS records instead, and DETCOG does not control that list. The emergency address and a company's database may catch up on different clocks.
