River Ranch County Park Gives Liberty Hill Room to Roam
River Ranch County Park spreads across 1,354 acres of meadow, woods, hill, and escarpment between Leander and Liberty Hill, with the South Fork of the San Gabriel River clipping through its northeast corner. It's a lot of open country for a part of the county that's filling up fast.
There are 20 miles of hiking and equestrian trails to spend a day on, plus camping, day-use and picnic areas, horseback riding, and nature watching, all anchored by an interpretive center of about 4,800 square feet. Old live oaks shade the trails, and the wildlife list runs from deer to coyotes to porcupines.
For the west side of the county, this is the place to get hill-country views, river bottom, and dark-sky quiet without leaving Williamson County. Day-use fees, camping rules, trail maps, and where motors are and aren't allowed all sit on the county park page if you're planning a longer trip out.
