The Best and Worst Times to Hit the Randall County Tax Office

If you have to go in person to the Randall County tax office, timing is everything. The counter is slammed the first and last week of every month and at the noon-to-two lunch crush, and the single worst day of the year is the last day of January, when the property-tax deadline lands. Aim for a mid-month morning and you'll often walk right up.

There are two counters to choose from: the main office at 501 16th St. in Canyon, open 8 to 5 weekdays, and the Amarillo annex on South Western, which stays open until 6 on Thursdays for anyone who can't break away during the day.

For a plain registration renewal, though, the smartest move is to skip the building entirely. Texas lets you renew online through the Texas by Texas app or by mail through the county office — both just need proof of current liability insurance and your renewal notice. Save the in-person trip for title work or anything that genuinely requires a clerk, and bring your driver's license, which the office requires for all motor vehicle business.
