Canyon Built an Accessible Playground in Kylie Hiner's Memory
Kylie Hiner made a point of remembering people. She asked about the people she met, remembered the details the next time she saw them, and made new friends feel important. Canyon's playground in her name was built as a place for the whole community.
It opened after two years of fundraising and one year after groundbreaking. A public-private partnership raised more than $1.2 million, with Southwest AMBUCS in Amarillo coordinating and raising donations.
The result is a fully accessible playground at Conner Park, 1900 12th Avenue. Its equipment includes a zipline, an eclipse net climber, and panels for tactile and musical play. A shaded picnic area connects to the playground. Elsewhere in Conner Park are the Lois Rice Pavilion, baseball fields, other playgrounds, and Canyon Aqua Park.
