Search Harris County Real Property Records With the Clerk

Every deed, lien release, and plat tied to Harris County real estate is recorded by the County Clerk's Real Property Department. If you are buying a home, this is where you can see what is officially attached to a property: who owned it, what is recorded against it, and how the lot is platted.

The online search lets you look by owner names, file number, date, or property description. Scanned images go back to November 1, 1960. Two things to keep in mind: a freshly recorded document can take a business day or two to show up in the search, and the Clerk states plainly that the online database is not the official repository and may not reflect the complete record.

That last point matters for anything serious. For title work or a certified copy you can rely on, go through the Clerk's official copy and contact process rather than treating a screen grab as the final word.
