Two offices handle your property tax in Freestone County
Walk a couple of blocks in downtown Fairfield and you'll pass both halves of your property-tax bill without realizing it. The Freestone Central Appraisal District, at 218 N. Mount St., is where your property's value gets set each year. The Tax Assessor-Collector, over on Commerce St., is where that value turns into a bill you actually pay. Two offices, two different jobs, and people mix them up all the time.
The split matters when something looks wrong. If you think the value on your notice is too high, that's a conversation with the appraisal district (903-389-5510, freestonecad.org), the folks who decide what your land and house are worth. If your gripe is about the bill, a payment, or a due date, that's the tax office at 305 Commerce St. (903-389-2336). Call the right one and you skip a frustrating round of being told you're in the wrong building.
