East Texas / Piney Woods

Teague, Texas

Teague is a city in Freestone County, in the rolling farm and timber country between the Piney Woods and the Blackland Prairie, about 52 miles east of Waco. The town grew as a railroad division point in the early twentieth century, and its restored 1906 depot now houses the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The surrounding land is a mix of oak woodland, pasture, and small farms.

Property here runs through the Freestone Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Freestone County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
