Two Offices Handle Your Property Tax in Young County

Everything that drives your property tax bill starts at 505 5th St. in Graham. That's the Young Central Appraisal District, the people who put a number on your house. It's also where you file for your homestead exemption, and where you go to push back if that number came in higher than your house is worth. File the homestead before May 1 of the tax year and you're inside the general window.

Walk two blocks over to 417 2nd St. and you'll find the Young County Tax Office, the assessor-collector. The surprise is that this office isn't the one cashing your property tax check. The city, the school district, the hospital district — each bills and collects its own. So a payment you assume goes to one window may belong at another. If you can't tell which is yours, the appraisal district or the taxing unit itself will straighten it out.
