Padre Balli Park Has a County Dune Walkover at the Gulf Edge
Padre Balli Park is the county beach piece many Corpus Christi visitors use without thinking much about county government. The park sits at 15829 Park Road 22 on Padre Island.
A few doors down, Briscoe King Pavilion sits inside the same park at 15820 Park Road 22. The pavilion is rentable for gatherings, but the detail that gives the place its beach character is public: it connects to an expansive wooden dune walkover.
That little bit of built wood is easy to overlook. On a barrier island, though, the route from parking lot to beach matters. The dune is part of the place, not an obstacle in the way.
That walkover is quiet Gulf beach infrastructure. It gives people a way to reach the sand while keeping feet off the dunes. It also makes Padre Balli feel like more than parking beside the water.
