Get a Marriage License Through the Lubbock County Clerk
Marriage paperwork in Lubbock County starts with the County Clerk's office downtown. The clerk issues the formal marriage license and also handles declarations of informal (common-law) marriage, which require both parties to appear in person.
Two clocks matter once you apply. There is a 72-hour waiting period before you can marry, and the license must be used within 90 days or it expires. The waiting period can be waived in a couple of ways. Active-duty military are exempt, and couples who complete the state's Twogether in Texas premarital education course can have the 72 hours waived and the license fee reduced by showing the course certificate when they apply.
Before you lock in a ceremony date, check the clerk's current page for ID requirements, fees, and how the signed license gets returned for recording. Starting from the county source keeps a wedding timeline from getting tangled.
