When You Need a Texas Fishing License in Tarrant County

Texas residents usually need a fishing license in public water. Anglers under 17 do not. Residents born before January 1, 1931 also do not. A resident age 65 or older who was born on or after that date can use a senior package. Rules for visitors have their own exceptions, so check TPWD's list instead of guessing from age alone.

Eagle Mountain Lake, Benbrook Lake, and the Trinity River are public waters. The license is only the first check. The Outdoor Annual lists bag and length limits for the county and each body of water. One handy exception: no license is needed when fishing from a bank or pier inside a Texas state park.
