Short-Term Rentals in Fort Worth Have Strict Rules

The City of Fort Worth passed a short-term rental ordinance in 2023. STRs are allowed in commercial, industrial, and most mixed-use zoning districts, but not in residential zones. If you want to rent out a home in a standard neighborhood, it is not allowed under Fort Worth's rules.

Hosts in allowed zones must register with the city and may need a Certificate of Occupancy if the STR is not their primary home. Other Tarrant County cities may have their own rules, or none at all. Always check the city's zoning ordinance before listing a property.
