Check Fire Marshal Permits Before Opening a Business

For business buildings outside city limits, the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal can be part of the permitting path. The office runs an online system called City Works where you apply for permits, submit plans and documents, check status, and request inspections.

The county's permit instructions cover fire-alarm and sprinkler work, new building construction, structural changes, renovations, demolition of commercial structures, and a change of occupancy for businesses in the unincorporated parts of the county. In other words, it is not only new buildings — reusing an existing one for a different purpose can trigger a review too.

Before signing a lease or buying a building outside a municipality, ask the Fire Marshal at (830) 303-8856 which permits, inspections, or fire-system reviews apply. It is far cheaper to sort out before your planned opening date than after.
