County-Road Driveways Need Road and Bridge Review

Cutting a new driveway onto a Guadalupe County road isn't a weekend culvert job you do on your own. The Road and Bridge Department permits and inspects every new driveway installed along a county road, so the entrance gets reviewed before it gets used.

The driveway application asks up front whether the access is residential or commercial, and the permit goes null and void if you don't actually build the driveway within 12 months of the issue date. The same department also hands out an excavation permit packet for any digging in the county right-of-way.

This is the catch that bites land buyers: a tract can look perfectly buildable and still have no legal access, no culvert, and no 911 address yet. Talk to Road and Bridge before you cut an entrance or schedule a utility crew to trench near a county road.
