Dove Hunting Is a Fall Tradition on the Plains

Lubbock County is in the North Zone for dove hunting. For 2026-27, the regular season runs September 1 through November 8, then December 18 through January 7. Get permission before entering private farmland to hunt.

The daily bag is 15 mourning, white-winged, and white-tipped doves combined, with no more than two white-tipped. Possession is three times the daily bag. Legal shooting hours run from half an hour before sunrise to sunset.

Carry the hunting license and endorsements that apply to you. Dove hunting requires the Migratory Game Bird Endorsement and HIP certification, subject to the state's license exemptions. Check the current Outdoor Annual before each season, including the youth-license rules.
