Get a Disabled Parking Placard Through the County Tax Office

Disabled parking placards and disabled-person license plates are part of the motor vehicle work done at the Lubbock County Tax Assessor-Collector's office, not at a separate state counter. The county handles both the permanent placard, which is renewable every four years, and the temporary placard, which expires in six months or less.

The application has to be backed by a doctor. A licensed physician completes the disability statement on the Application for Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard or Plate (Form VTR-214); the county also notes that a notarized application or a written prescription can be required, so confirm what your situation needs before you submit.

Pull the current Form VTR-214 from TxDMV and check the county FAQ for how to file. The usual snag is missing or outdated medical information, which sends the request back and costs you a week or two.
