Nature Center
Clear Creek keeps Denton close to prairie, woods, and water
On Denton's northeast edge, Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center is a gateway to more than 2,900 acres of bottomland hardwood forest, upland prairie, and diverse aquatic habitats. The City of Denton leases the land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and runs it.
It is a family-friendly place to hike through several habitats in one trip, and it shows off the county's edge-of-the-prairie feel better than any highway map can. This is the landscape that was here before the subdivisions.
For residents it is an easy outing close to town: quick hikes, wildlife watching, and hands-on nature learning. Check the city page before you go, since trail access and conditions can change after wet weather.
