Get a Montgomery County 911 Address Before You Build

The address your phone shows you isn't always the one that's real. In Montgomery County the official one is issued by the Emergency Communication District (MCECD), the addressing authority set up by Commissioners Court — and Google and the other mapping apps only estimate where a place sits, which is how a dispatcher ends up at the wrong driveway. MCECD's addressing page has one form to request a new address for a residence or property and another to verify an address already on file.

On a property with more than one place to live, each livable structure needs its own address from the district. A second house, guest quarters, a rental unit, or a fresh build site usually has to carry its own official number rather than share the main one.

Square the address away with MCECD before you order utilities, file permit paperwork, or give a 911 dispatcher directions. The electric hookup, the permit, and the ambulance all key off that number, and getting it right early is the difference between a crew finding your driveway in the dark and circling the block.
