Conroe, Texas

Conroe is the seat of Montgomery County, about 40 miles north of Houston and just north of The Woodlands, in the wooded country of southeast Texas. The city sits near Lake Conroe, a large reservoir on the West Fork of the San Jacinto River that draws boaters and anglers, and its growth has been shaped by an early oil boom and later by the northward expansion of the Houston metropolitan area. Pine forest surrounds much of the surrounding countryside.

Property here runs through the Montgomery Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Montgomery County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
