Mertzon, Texas

Mertzon is a small city in West Texas, seat of Irion County, lying about 27 miles southwest of San Angelo along Spring Creek in the semi-arid ranchland of the Edwards Plateau's western edge. The surrounding country is open range given over largely to sheep, goat, and cattle ranching, with oil and gas activity across the county. The town developed as a shipping point on the rail line running southwest from San Angelo.

Property here runs through the Irion Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Irion County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
