Eldorado, Texas

Eldorado is a small city in Schleicher County, set on the rangeland of the Edwards Plateau in West Texas about 43 miles southwest of San Angelo. The surrounding country has long been sheep, goat, and cattle ranching land. The area gained wide attention in 2008 when state authorities raided the nearby YFZ Ranch, an FLDS religious compound northeast of town.

Property here runs through the Schleicher Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Schleicher County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
