Fredericksburg, Texas

Fredericksburg is the seat of Gillespie County, set in the granite-and-limestone hills of Central Texas about 62 miles northwest of San Antonio. A German settlement founded in the mid-19th century, it retains a strong German heritage visible in its Sunday houses, historic Main Street architecture, and long-standing local food and beer traditions. The surrounding countryside is one of the state's leading wine regions, and the town is home to the National Museum of the Pacific War, built around the boyhood home of Admiral Chester Nimitz. Enchanted Rock, a massive pink-granite dome, rises from the ranchland north of town.

Property here runs through the Gillespie Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Gillespie County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
