Fredericksburg's Historic District Extends Beyond Main Street

Fredericksburg's National Register historic district is wider than the blocks many people picture as Main Street. Its rough boundary runs from Elk to Schubert to Acorn to Creek streets. The district has been on the register since 1970.

Late Victorian and Bungalow/Craftsman are among its recorded styles. Its areas of significance include art, European ethnic heritage, settlement, and architecture. In other words, the district holds several chapters of town life rather than one preserved look.

Those four boundary streets change the walk. Main Street may be the front door, but the official district continues into the surrounding grid. A turn away from the storefronts can move between different building periods while staying inside the same historic place.
