Wildlife Trail Stories & local character

The Wimberley Loop is a scenic driving and wildlife trail in Hays County

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department includes the Wimberley Loop in its Heart of Texas East Wildlife Trail. The trail covers scenic ranch roads and back routes in the Hill Country. You may see white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and a variety of songbirds common to the Edwards Plateau.

Most of the land along these routes is private, so you observe wildlife from the road. You do not need a hunting license to drive a wildlife trail. The TPWD website at tpwd.texas.gov has maps and species guides for each wildlife trail region.
