Register to Vote in Polk County a Month Ahead

Texas runs voter registration county by county, so when you move into Polk County, your old registration doesn't follow you — you re-register at your new address. Same goes for moving across town within the county or changing your name. The cutoff is firm: your application has to be received at least 30 days before Election Day, and it's postmark-doesn't-count, it's received-by.

The catch with a 30-day deadline is that early voting starts before most people are paying attention, so a registration you mail the week of the election is already too late for that one. Check your status well before the season heats up rather than finding out at the polls.

The county voter registrar works out of the courthouse at 101 W. Church Street in Livingston. You can pick up and mail the paper application from there, or use the state's online tools at VoteTexas to fill it out and check whether you're current at your Polk County address.
