Livingston, Texas

Set in the Piney Woods of East Texas, Livingston is the seat of Polk County, about 49 miles northeast of The Woodlands and roughly 70 miles from Houston. The town lies in forested country near Lake Livingston, a large reservoir on the Trinity River that draws anglers and boaters. The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas maintains its reservation in the wooded land to the east of town.

Property here runs through the Polk Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Polk County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
