East Texas / Piney Woods

Goodrich, Texas

Goodrich is a small city in Polk County, in the Piney Woods of East Texas, about 43 miles northeast of The Woodlands. The town took shape as a railroad depot after the Houston East and West Texas Railway crossed the Trinity River nearby in the late 19th century, and its early economy rested on timber, cotton, and later on oil discovered in the surrounding field. It sits amid the dense pine and hardwood forest characteristic of the region, near the Trinity River bottomlands.

Property here runs through the Polk Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Polk County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
