Vehicle Title
After a Private Car Sale in Wichita County, the Clock Is 30 Days
A handshake and a signed-over title feel like the deal is done, but in Texas the sale isn't really finished until the title is recorded in the buyer's name. You have 30 days from the date on the bill of sale to get that done. Miss it and late-transfer penalties begin adding up, so handle it the same week the keys change hands, not the week the temporary tag runs out.
The place to do it is the Wichita County Tax Office at 600 Scott Avenue, Suite 103, in downtown Wichita Falls, a few blocks from the courthouse on 7th Street. Bring the signed title, a completed Form 130-U, proof of insurance, your ID, and payment for the title fee and sales tax. If you can, have the seller come with you. When both names are in the room, a missing signature or a wrong odometer line gets fixed on the spot instead of turning into a second trip.
If you're the one selling, don't just hand over the keys and walk away. File a Vehicle Transfer Notification with TxDMV within 30 days, and the state marks the car as sold, which means the next round of parking tickets and toll-road violations the new owner racks up can't come chasing you.
