Title Transfer

Transfer a Vehicle Title Through the Midland County Tax Office

When you buy a truck off a neighbor in Midland, the handshake and the cash aren't the end of it. The vehicle isn't really yours until the title changes hands on paper at the Midland County Tax Office, at 2110 N. A Street just north of downtown. That's the same counter where you renew registration, and the line tends to be shorter early in the week.

Bring two things and most transfers go smoothly: the title, signed over to you by the seller, and a filled-out Application for Texas Title and/or Registration, Form 130-U. The seller signs as the previous owner; you sign as the new one. Get the odometer reading and the date of sale right, because a scratched-out number is the kind of thing that sends you home to start over.

It helps to have the seller come with you. If a lien was never released, the title's been lost, or the odometer doesn't match the paperwork, the clerk can catch it at the window while the seller is still standing there to fix it. Oilfield trucks, trailers bought out of state, and inherited vehicles all carry extra steps, so it pays to call the office at (432) 688-4810 before you make the trip.
